When I began creating this piece, I envisioned a celestial world beyond the fence—a representation of heaven. Behind this barrier, I imagined my father, who passed away 12 years ago. This painting became a deeply personal reflection of my longing to connect with him, and as I worked, it felt like I was building a bridge between our worlds.
In the painting, a hand holds a doorknob tied around a ribbon, symbolizing a gateway to the celestial realm. That hand represents my father, reaching beyond earthly boundaries toward me. The ribbon and doorknob carry dual meanings: they signify my connection to my father while also representing the act of unlocking a spiritual journey.
A peephole in the painting offers only a partial view of the celestial world, symbolizing the mystery of the afterlife. It reminds us that we can only catch fleeting glimpses of what lies beyond. The moon-like shape and silver sheen suggest heaven’s light and its mirror-like quality, reflecting eternity.
The timepiece in the hand emphasizes the passage of time, reminding me to trust in divine timing. As I painted it, I often reflected on the moments I shared with my father and how, even now, I carry his presence within me.
