This work is part of my “Nostalgia” series, which reflects on my memories of growing up in Karachi. Painted with gouache on wood, it draws inspiration from the traditional board games Ludo and Snakes and Ladders, games that were a joyful part of my childhood. The checkerboard design echoes the patterns found on the back of the Ludo board, symbolizing the unpredictability and duality of life. Through this piece, I explore how life itself mirrors a game, full of challenges, turns, and moments of chance, where each move brings us closer to understanding who will rise, fall, or ultimately ‘win’ the game of life.
Where the Dice Fall invites the viewer to consider the uncertainty and beauty of life’s journey, and to remember that, like in a game, each turn is part of a larger story we are all playing together.
